PARISFRANCECYCLING

We took a short break to Paris last weekend and it was glorious weather. The idea was to use a spare Paris flight. It’s essentially sunk cost fallacy in action. What do you do when you have booked two more flights than you need? That's right, you move the flights, buy some return book accommodation and pay for meals and taxis to make it all work That should save some money.

Anyway, as we floated around Paris, we stumbled upon multiple groups of yellow Bianchi bikes with yellow clad riders, all assembling on the Arc de Triomphe. Assuming that it was some sales stunt, or perhaps people re-enacting the last part of the final stage of the Tour de France, I thought nothing of it. But there were jus so many of them for it to be a few randomers. Anyway, it turns out Team Rynkeby cycle to Paris every year from wherever the group you joined starts from I believe. It’s a charity ride, but it’s a pretty serious thing. It’s not a matter of pay the joining fee and turn up with your Raleigh Grifter and cross your fingers that you’ll get to Paris, oh no, you might not get picked for the team for a start, and you have to ride the team bike. Not sure what the arrangement is for the bike, but from looking online the costs to compete are around 3000EUR which could include the bike price I assume, but not much room for anything else.

Either way, it was interesting to see these groups of riders leisurely cycling around Paris in what was baking heat.
