San Lorenzo's Golden Library
SPAINMONETARYMADRID
Believe it or not, it’s holiday season, and we found ourselves in the heart of Spain—Madrid! But the real treasure was just a short trip away at San Lorenzo de El Escorial. There, tucked away, we discovered a library that truly stopped us in our tracks. The intricate ceilings immediately brought to mind the Sistine Chapel—though unlike Michelangelo’s famous corridor, this was an entire library. Imagine reading here, surrounded by centuries of history and art—it’s a dream for any book lover. And if your eyes wander, the library looks out onto expansive, manicured gardens—a double delight for both mind and camera.
The only hitch? The weather didn’t quite play along. Grey, leaden skies and persistent rain tested our photography skills, turning every outdoor shot into a challenge. Overcast light can be cruel to photographers: shadows vanish, colors flatten, and even the most breathtaking scenery can seem dull in a photo. It’s frustrating when the reality is so vibrant and alive—but then again, sometimes those moody skies add their own dramatic flair.
If you’re planning a visit to Madrid or looking for unique, off-the-beaten-path spots, San Lorenzo de El Escorial is an absolute must-see—library, gardens, and history all in one unforgettable experience.
