Tatton Park is a great place to walk, though I always forget just how massive the gardens are. When I was asked to pay £22 for two people (on top of the £11 we’d already paid to enter the parkland), I did have to wonder about the value.

Whether the garden entry is worth it is up to you, but it’s an interesting walk if you’re a fan of horticulture. If you just want to roam, you can stick to the 1,000 acres of Cheshire countryside in the main grounds for the standard vehicle entry fee. Or, if you’re a cyclist, you can enter for free. I’d love to cycle around the Lyme Park or Tatton estates, but the journey from my house to the gates would be a marathon in itself.

Anyway, I’m off topic. We paid the entry fees and headed into the gardens, where we saw this: a massive Ferris wheel (The "Giant Wheel"). It felt bizarre, juxtaposed against the historic, manicured foliage of the Tatton Park Gardens.

From a photography perspective, I think the angle makes it look even more imposing. My wife asked if I should move back, but I refused—stepping back would have integrated it into the landscape. Getting this close makes it look as towering and out-of-place as it felt in person.

I didn't go up, but my wife reckoned there wasn't much to see. I disagree; you can see for miles across the Cheshire Plain from up there. It’s so flat you can probably see Jodrell Bank. Win-win.
