The Power of Dreams
SCULPTUREANIMALART

Another one from my trip around Manchester, this can be found in the side of the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. It’s an artwork that is lit up and built into the side exterior wall. I think the last time I saw it, the light wasn’t working, so it was impossible to see much, let alone take a decent picture, even so it was difficult to take a pic of what with the glass reflecting my own hand.
Apparently it’s a commemoration to all the pet shops that used to inhabit the Northern Quarter and one particular owner called Mr Smith. What I’m not clear about is what the whole thing means. Is this a stylistic Mr Smith, or one of the pets, and what’s the stairs all about? I mean don’t get me wrong, I like it, and it’s cute. I assume it’s the dream and therefore asking questions of any dream seems a little pointless.
I did a quick search to see if I could find more info, and found the artist’s website where you could text otter to a number to see what Mr Smith is dreaming and as of yet I have not had a reply, so perhaps he’s not sleeping at the moment.
If you’re in Manchester pop along, you might hear some bells that ring out from it three times a day, it’s weirdly unspecific so if you’re lucky enough to hear them then well done, but I would not hang about expecting it, since like the light, it may be broken at some point.
