Unknown Beacons

BEACONFLINTSKY

Just near Flint Castle, you can find one of these beacons that I can’t find any info on. In fact I can find pictures of the beacon that’s the the RNLI station, and I can find info on the Bagillt beacon which we were nowhere near, but this seems to be pinned on Google maps as Flint Foreshaw, which it is and isn’t. I mean it’s part of it, but it isn’t it, so I have no idea what this is and whether it has a name.

But it was interesting to walk around the coast near Flint and find that there is/was a dock that used to be quite busy in these parts. Since the industry has gone (in some ways) it’s hard to imagine it as a dock as I’m assuming the lack of maintenance makes it look more like an inlet that goes nowhere. I must admit when we started walking down the dock I assumed it was an inlet and then found it just stopped, at which point I saw the information board. The dock was mainly used exporting coal, until the colliery closed which spelt the end of the dock’s use, which is probably why it looks like it does today.

After a quick look online it appears that the old colliery is where the cemetery in Flint is now, and is about 1 mile away from the dock, which is unsurprising I suppose.

Other interesting things around the area are wooden figures sat on benches, one being a fisherwoman near the RNLI station and the other one being someone dressed in British Army kit with a letter from home. I was surprised to see the letter still there, but I suspect it gets “lost” on regular occasion, since the soldier seems to get vandalised every so often.

Lots of info on the soldier, not so much on the fisher woman. Perhaps I’m not looking hard enough.
